WELCOME TO BRODHEAD HIGH SCHOOL!!
Welcome to the 2014 – 2015 school year. I am very excited for the upcoming school year and the many opportunities our students will have for success. Our school has a tremendous record of success and achievement. This has been accomplished through the hard work of our students, staff and parents. The tremendous support of our community plays a large role in the success of our school.
We are coming off another very successful year. Our test scores have improved in several areas. Our graduation rate remains one of the highest in the state at 97%. Almost 75% of our student body participates in some form of activity in the school and 58% are on our honor roll. We continue to lead area schools with AP course offerings along with courses offering college credit. Senior Projects once again had a tremendous year as the class of 2014 was able to raise over $30,000 for different groups and organizations. Over the last six years we have rose over $126,000 and helped over 100 different organizations. Brodhead High School also has a long standing tradition with large amounts of student scholarships. This past year our seniors received over $450,000 in scholarships.
BHS also had another terrific year in sports. We won conference titles in Girls Basketball, (three in a row), Wrestling (Two in a row) and Boys Track. We came in second in three other sports. The Football team qualified for the playoffs for the 23rd year in a row. Our volleyball team and Girl’s Basketball teams both qualified for the state tournament. Three of our wrestlers participated in the state individual wrestling tournament. We also had two students qualify for state in Track with state champions in both the shot put and the discus.
The High School has experienced several years of increased success rates in many areas. Although we remain very strong academically, we are working on methods to take the next step to a higher level of success. We will be implementing new intervention system into our schedule this year to improve student success. This system, known as RTI, will help us identify student weaknesses and develop strategies to address these areas. We continue to develop our character education program in which our student council and teachers work together to promote a positive school climate. This is a proactive approach that stresses respect, responsibility, and readiness. By stressing these expectations to students we hope they will graduate as better citizens and people. Although education continues to change, we will continue to grow and improve with this ever changing scenery. Our goal is to move Brodhead High School forward and be one of the best schools in the area.
*** Please remember that there is a freshmen orientation on August 12 at 6:00 p.m. and students will pick up schedules and student handbooks. A parent meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Co-curricular meeting at 7:30 p.m. I would like to see all freshmen at the orientation; many things will be covered that they will need to know for the school year.
