Fundamentals of Design - 1/2 credit
Open to Grades 9,10,11,12
Prerequisite: None

 Elements and principles of good design are studied through many short assignments. Students are introduced to various media through the different techniques of printmaking, glass, photography, drawing, painting and pottery. This course is a prerequisite for all other art courses.

 


Ceramics & Sculpture - 1/2 credit
Open to Grades 9,10,11,12
Prerequisite: Fundamentals of Design

Special Note: There is a $20 fee for this course.

 

The Primary material used in this course is clay. Assignments in hand building, wheel, and mold techniques and sculpture will be used to make functional and decorative pieces.

 


Art Metals & Jewelry - 1/2 credit Open to Grades 10,11,12
Prerequisite: Fundamentals of Design

Special Note: There is a $20 fee for this course. Additional costs are optional with student's choice in assignments.

 Students will use their simple designs to create various wearable art such as pins, pendants, rings and earrings. Basic jewelry skills in construction and casting will be introduced.

 

 


Glass - 1/2 credit Open to Grades 10,11,12
Prerequisite: Fundamentals of Design

Special Note: There is a $20 fee for this course. Additional costs are optional with student's choice in assignments.

 Students will explore various techniques that use colored glass. It will be important for students to be disciplined with patience in attention to detail. Techniques introduced will be: glass etching, mosaics, fusing, and stain glass. These techniques will be used in assignments to create objects for windows, gardens and jewelry.

 

 


Drawing - 1/2 credit
Open to Grades 9,10,11,12
Prerequisite: Fundamentals of Design


Special Note: There is a $20 fee for this course.

This course will explore many different drawing techniques (contour, perspective, figure, abstract) through the use of a variety of media (pencil, ink, charcoal, pastels, colored pencils). Many different subjects will be used for drawings. Students will develop a portfolio for their work as well as keep a sketchbook. 


 Painting - 1/2 credit
Open to Grades 10,11,12
Prerequisite: Fundamentals of Design

Special Note: There is a $20 fee for this course.

 Students will be introduced to a variety of painting techniques used with the different media of acrylic, watercolor, pastels, airbrush and oil. After experimenting with materials, students will paint landscapes, portraits, abstractions and subjects of their own choosing.

 


 

Photography - 1/2 credit
Open to Grades 10,11,12
Prerequisite: Fundamentals of Design

Special Note: There is a $20 fee for this course. Additional costs will vary with students choices in assignments for the film and photographic paper. Students are required to have a 35mm camera and know its basic operation.

 Students will learn the history and science of photography. Black and white photographic equipment will be used to expose film, process film and print images. The art of the photo communication, composition principles and creative design will be explored in the darkroom as well as through technology on the computer and digital cameras. Facility restrictions will limit enrollment and require students to schedule work time during their study hall.
